Baraka – Part 9 of 10
The word Baraka means “blessing” in several languages; watching this film, the viewer is blessed with a dazzling barrage of images that transcend language. Filmed in 24 countries and set to an ever-changing global soundtrack, the movie draws some surprising connections between various peoples and the spaces they inhabit, whether that space is a lonely mountaintop or a crowded cigarette factory. Some of these attempts at connection are more successful than others: for instance, an early sequence segues between the daily devotions of Tibetan monks, Orthodox Jews, and whirling dervishes, finding more similarity among these rituals than one might expect. And there are other amazing moments, as when sped-up footage of a busy Hong Kong intersection reveals a beautiful symmetry to urban life that could only be appreciated from the perspective of film. The lack of context is occasionally frustrating–not knowing where a section was filmed, or the meaning of the ritual taking place–and some of the transitions are puzzling. However, the DVD includes a short behind-the-scenes featurette in which cinematographer Ron Fricke (Koyaanisqatsi) explains that the effect was intentional: “It’s not where you are that’s important, it’s what’s there.” And what’s here, in Baraka, is a whole world summed up in 104 minutes. –Larisa Lomacky Moore

I had one gripe …
I had one gripe with this film, the part where the camera slowly goes over the genitals of a bunch of native children.
Yes, it makes …
Yes, it makes perfect sense. Film captures moments in time that will never be repeated again through the artistic interpretation of the director – much like the painting of a bowl of fruit portrays the artists interpretation – of course you can always just go and look at an actual bowl of fruit instead, but that’s not the point of the painting, or film in this case. Artistic impression and actual experience are two totally different things with totally different purposes

Not only that… …
Not only that… but it is not only any person that can travel to see this… it takes a creative person with a creative eye and person that is able to use the technology that allows for such creative video…. You are a fool if you cannot see why this is valuable… It costs a lot of money… more than you would know… to make something on this level to happen.
We all would…. …
We all would…. Videos like this are made for people that cannot travel the world due to economic issues and issues with fear…Your attitude is negative and arrogant…. If you can see this any day… either you are lying or truly blessed… I would ume that you’r ignorance is speaking rather than your ability to see all that is shot… sometimes a great deal of money is behind video that is so great that most will only see it on TV. Is that wrong? Is it wrong to be underprivileged?

Islam came about with the “prophet” muhammad, in the 7th century. The bible, meaning the new testamony was written in the 1st. century. That means the bible is 600 years older than Islam.
The Thora is even older.
